Not a bad thing actually, he'll recover better after that night's rest. Give him my best, been there!

It was more complicated than expected, he had a double hernia which materialised since November! Perhaps the extra wait was good at least now both are done together.

You'll have to keep a tight rein on him at dinner parties, you don't want too much exposure.

I have been creative today and made a fabric roll like one to store pencils or art brushes. It is to store my numerous knitting needles which live In a fabric carrier bag. I used to hold them together in pairs with rubber bands, but the bands rotted over time on little used needles. The rubber stuck to the needles and I couldn't get the goo off. So my needles will be stored in a roll in pairs in size order. Photo to follow when it is finished.

Snap! ( I need one of those!)
I keep all my knitting needles in a wooden box with a sliding lid, rather like a giant wooden pencil case. They are loose in there, so I hunt about for two that match.
I have so many needles, I would need a roll with about 100 pockets. I did think about making a roll once, and decided I would have to alternate the ends of the narrow channels or all of the bumpy ends would cause a problem being in the same place.
Funny...I was only revisiting that idea yesterday, as I was putting a pair of needles away. I recently bought some bamboo needles and enjoy using those, but I have wooden ones for knitting shawls, metal ones ( not keen on those), plastic ones and my treasured tortoise-shell ones. If knitting dark wool I like to use very colourful needles as I find it helps to see the stitches better when knitting in the evening.
Love my knitting needles...

My mum was a seamstress and she used curtain tape along the top and bottom of the fabric roll for securing the needles.

Thanks for the tips from both of you. Ian I could have done with that idea earlier today! Maz , I haven't started loading it all up yet but I will bear that in mine. However I do notice that modern needles have a less bulky end than my old ones, apart from my really chunky needles. I have made a square pocket in the middle for all those circular needles on a plastic wire thingy!

Thinking back, mums had small pockets created by vertical stitching on a doubled up bottom hem and wide and narrow curtain tape at the top. Roll was wide enough for longest needles and the big wooden ones used the wide tape to support them. I'm not sure if Sally still has my mums roll somewhere.

Think mine are happy enough in their box at the moment. The longest and chunkiest fit diagonally.

Saw some lovely wool the other day and was very tempted to buy it, but mustered all my strength and walked away.
Still have to finish the large throw I started last winter. There was no point knitting when hairy dog was in residence and the heat makes for uncomfortable knitting at the moment. Roll on cooler weather.
Hubby feels the cold in winter and has a stack of granny rugs that he piles on top of his side of the bed in Winter. He loves the extra weight. I've made a few for the tin tent too.

On clearing Grandads house as a teenager I acquired a roll of wood bits, I thought this was a wonderful system of storage, now all my spanners, screwdrivers and wood carving tools are all stored in rolls. Some of my fishing floats I keep in rolls, and like an earlier post I found this a good way to transport water colour brushes for out door work.

...or any prolonged bouts of driving while you are sneezing...

Have spend a great deal of the day welded to the couch, alternating between reading a book and a half hearted interest in some of the crap hubby was watching on TV. ( gawd he watches some rubbish!)
43 C outside, so I had little choice in the days activities.
Getting cabin fever. Hope to get out and do something tomorrow.
