Voting early! And then continuing my reading of 'A History of Christianity'. There is so much in the book to take in, it's a real door-stopper!

Making quince jelly. I got 8 good size quinces this year - much better than last year and enough to make a good batch.

I was once on a farm near Dubbo and early one morning the lady told me we were picking peaches as they were ripe. We did about eight hours and I asked her what the rush was. She said there won't be any tomorrow. She was right, the fruit bats arrived in the evening and took the lot!

Thanks for that Stanley.

After a bite to eat following the count, it was straight into Bands on the Square mode until midnight yesterday and it'll be a long day on the Town Square with the event today. (I'm not sure where I'd get the hours from to fulfil Stanley's exhortation!)

Going here in a minute. How Hill (!?) Norfolk to see this exhibition of Egyptian objects. Looking at the map and the location with respect to the river, the word hill may have a special Norfolk meaning. I suspect the hill may rise less than 10 meters above sea level. The Jeremia Colman is the Colman out of Rekitts & Colman, Colman Mustard etc.

That looks intriguing. Looked in Ekwall... 'How' seems to be from OE 'Hoh' = spur of a hill. Hill appears to originate in the German Hugel and the Old Norse 'hugl' the name for a high island, from there to OE 'Hugl' or 'hugol' = a hill.

bob and I are being treated to lunch by Claire for all the help and support we gave when little Erin was born. No need we said, but she insisted. Erin is now nearly 11 pounds and has slept over 6 hours at night twice this week.

Hi Sue, did you enjoy your canal trip? We had a stroll by the canal yesterday and it was very busy.
The farrier is due this morning to trim the ponies feet, then I'm hoping to get some peas & beans planted. If it stays dry there is an endless weeding task to be attempted, or if it's wet there is a house full of cleaning to do.
Should have a day & time for Mum's funeral by this afternoon, so a lot of phoning around to do.
It's the History Society's annual dinner tonight at the White Lion in Earby, with Christine Bradley (now retired Colne librarian) giving us an after dinner talk on her life in charge of the local history section of the library entitled "Oh no! Not Another Hartley!" Too good to miss I think.
