Thanks Stanley.

My view has been that the land had been taken for a road widening scheme and the likeleyhood was that it belonged to the highway authority. I've never seen any documents that prove this is the case though.

Quite right and it was an early scheme as the end cottage(s) was gone in 1959 when I bought Hey Farm. Ernie Roberts lived in one of them in the late 1930s, see the LTP.

Not strictly Barlick but near enough. Isn't it nice when pics have clear information on them!

Abel Taylor's horse Dick at Greenbank Farm on Gisburn Old Track in 1956. We forget how late horses were used as the main power on local farms. When I did this pic mains electricity hadn't reached the farms up the track.

The last time I saw a horse used for an everyday purpose was in September 1977 when I found this horse tethered outside the Central C-op building in Albert road in September 1977.

If you didn't fancy the Barlick offerings you could always jump on Laycock's bus and go to the Plaza or the Odeon at Skipton and have fish and chips afterwards.

Again, the question of tree growth (and planting).

The Gospel Mission in the foreground is a forgotten corner in itself.

Now redundant, the land was sold to the church by BUDC for a song, subject to any building only being used as a Gospel Mission. The church want to dispose of the increasing dilapidated property and have asked if they can be released from this covenant in order to make the land more marketable (as they are required to get the best value they can under charity law).

Keen to make sure that we get the best deal for the whole community (rather than adding a mite to Pendle's meagre coffers), local councillors have called for further talks with the church.

Any demolition will have to be carefully supervised as I suspect the roof is asbestos sheets. This could reduce any value there is in the site if Asbestos Regulations are strictly applied. I know to my cost from previous experiences that this can be very expensive.

The church were getting costs for demolition; they've not said what they are though.

Yes that is the Gospel Mission Hall there, built by my Great Uncle Douglas and his brother George, the Lawson brothers who farmed Yarlside - Douglas married one of my maternal grandma's sisters. And yes this building is now in some disrepair, the 'Mission' having moved Wellhouse area I think. The site of the original Mission was essentially next to what is now Monks Cottage, but upstairs.

That's a nice link. I used to pick up the Lawson Brother's milk at Yarlside every morning. Two quiet lads and I knew they didn't like bad language so I was always careful when we talked.

Tiz found this image in a book and sent it to me. Barlickers queuing to get into the old Alhambra Cinema before it burned down. I've found the book and ordered it and will post a better version when I get it.

Another of the pics Tiz sent. Caption is 'Burnt Mill'. Could be a corner of Butts Mill in 1923. (CHSC Minute books; It was reported that a fire had occurred at midnight on Saturday May 26th (1923) in the warehouse of E Aldersley and Co at Butts Mill and adjoining the warehouse occupied by J Horsfield, that the premises were completely gutted but very little damage done to J Horsfield's warehouse. There was some damage to shed lights and warps in Aldersley's shed. The warehouse was insured with the London Assurance Co for £5416.")

When I was at Southampton Uni and selling rag mags around pubs for charity the organisers said never to bother with working men's clubs as they never let you in. Not true my Clubs and Institutes Union card got a group of us through the doors of all the clubs in Portswood, Bitterne and Swathling without a problem. Nolic
