Did you pick the lead shot out of it?
Had a haggis salad butty for dinner and in view of the demise of the swedes, I got some sweet potatoes and boiled and mashed them instead. Had haggis, mashed sweet potato and boiled salad spuds for tea. Complete success, lovely taste.

Plenty of spuds and mashed sweet potato left so haggis, spuds and sweet potatoes for dinner. There was some haggis and sweet potato left so I chucked it in a bowl with beetroot, tomato and a bit of cucumber for the crunch, light, easy and very tasty. I popped a piece of two shear in the oven last night and left it cooking slowly.... Time to get it out and see what we have!

The knuckle of two shear was OK, got it out, stripped the meat off and considered my options. Then Wendy turned up with my Stephanie book but also some freshly lifted spuds, turnips and six bantam eggs. Lovely! So yesterday's menu was set. I boiled the spuds and turnips and had two shear, spuds, turnip and three fried batman eggs on top for dinner. I had the rest of the spuds and turnips with two shear for tea, topped up with a few peas and the other three bantam eggs (they were very small of course). Lovely grub, nothing like fresh produce, I noticed that after I had scrubbed the spuds and was cutting them they cracked when they were sliced.... Thanks Wendy!

I think I should have dug the spuds up earlier, they have grown a bit big. The baby turnips are delicious though.

No complaints from me Wendy! I have just watched the BBC 1975 programme on Lothersdale you gave me. Wonderful! The Pickles family, some of them ancestors of the Barnoldswick Pickles who all came from Lothersdale via Kelbrook. Ted Booth and his wife at Dowshaw, twenty years earlier I delivered their groceries every week. Keith Drinkall buying calves at Skipton Auction. It was well filmed and narrated by Michael Parkinson. Totally absorbing. If anyone wants a copy just let me know.....

I thought you would like it. I love the old lady up at Hewitts Farm on Pinhaw, is she a Pickles? Her son was farming there until very recently and the farm has just been sold.
The chap who tells the story of the first motor lorry delivering stone from the quarry....and the accents! All about a way of life that's almost disappeared.

I watched on the TV so I got the full benefit. Yes, she was a Pickles.... a big family in Lothersdale. Lovely to see the mill working....

You should let Febby wear some clothes Maz. It's cruel to keep him naked, especially in winter. Left a big bag of spinach and some turnips...

Wot! No Garlic?
Not very hungry yesterday, I was distracted. Had a two shear salad butty for dinner and a banana for tea after eating the rest of the two shear (only a small piece) like toffee because I felt a bit peckish.

Butcher's Day yesterday. I broke my rule and had a pork pie for breakfast, straight out of the oven and no jelly in it because it would only have spilled. Nothing like a fresh pie straight out of the oven. Pressed beef salad butty for dinner and a slice of toast with Haslet and salad on it for tea.

Ham butty on a currant teacake for dinner courtesy of daughter Susan after we got back from the hospital. Last of the bread with the meat off some two shear chops with lettuce for tea.

Made a Lasagne.
Made it yesterday actually, but Febby fancied Pizza for tea (for once!).
yes...well...he cannot escape my Lasagne tonight.
Trying to eat the contents of our freezer before the next move...no doubt we shall have some very odd meals toward the end as we get to the last items.
Have finally found our new home and will be enjoying a sea-change.

Where is the new place and when's the move?

We're heading to SA next month, to the Flinders Ranges. From there we'll wander back along the Murry River to the NSW coast and spend some time along the Southern NSW beaches. Probably a couple of months.

The River Murray was a great contender as the place for our new home, Liz. We both love the river and are avid house-boaters...though I am not a fan of mosquitoes or snakes.
The sea-side was also calling as a possible home...

Heading "darn sarth" as they say.
Probably our kids would have preferred us to choose the river, as they all love spending time there ( one lot were hoping we could store their ski boat!). But they lucked out. The sea won!

Have a great trip. Pack the doona! Can get a bit parky on the river in winter, but the most amazing misty mornings.

Had the last of the haggis with chips and beans for dinner. Cooked two small two shear chops, stripped the meat and used half of it with the left-over chips from dinner to make a base for a salad butty for tea.

I get to choose my own dinner tonight, as hubby at a work do.
So fresh mushrooms, spinach and herbs tonight, on toasted whole meal bread. Yum. Lots of pepper. No salt.

The remainder of the chop meat and two sausages made the base for a salad butty at dinnertime. Rest of the sausage, a tin of baked beans and a few chips for tea. An apple for pudding!
I saw a report yesterday that two meals a day is a good thing for Type 2 diabetes. It appears as though I do the right thing! I also have an 18 hour fast each day between tea at 16:30 and dinner at 11:00 the next day. It suits me and I never feel hungry. I suspect I'm a bit peculiar......

Minimal effort yesterday, caramelised some onions, an almost dead tomato and chives. Grilled six small sausages, fried some chips. Divided in two, this was dinner and tea.

Red Salmon Patties, Mashed Spuds, Cauli, Carrots, Baby Peas and some steamed Baby Spinach. Hubby like his Red Salmon Patties with Sweet Chilli Sauce, but I like mine plain.

I have always wanted to roast some fresh beetroot, Liz. Does it have a lovely flavour? (I really must give it a go. Veg shopping tomorrow, so shall keep an eye out for some).

Stanley. More Veg! They are good for the eyes! (one almost decomposed tomato doesn't count).

Maz, onions and chives is veg! And I had two apples for pudding as well. And I forgot to say I had comfort food later in the evening, a piece of toast with St Augur spread on it....
