Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

The blatant stupidity of the moronic bastards who use Gisburn Road/Bracewell Lane, as their expressways to wherever in a bid to save nanoseconds. Shortly after 4 o'clock this afternoon the roads and streets in this area were inundated by a large amount of flood water, did this slow them down? like hell it did. The worst offenders being the aggregate lorries that use this road as a "rat run", then the tank (4x4) drivers who are oblivious to all else but themselves. It is about 6 metres from our front gate to the house, the tidemark is about 3 from the house. The expressions of delight on the faces of some of the drivers beggars belief, no regard at all for pedestrians or roadside property. The pictures taken I will post later when tranquillity returns.

I went to the hospital today. Interesting to see a large notice outside A&E stating that anyone who had been in Africa in the last two months should make it known at reception. I think we've been lucky so far.

Hard to tell Liz. The police are being accused of 'shaking the tree' to see what falls out. The question is what the basis for the raid on his home was. One would think that they have suspicions and some evidence, time will tell whether there is any basis in this. In some ways it doesn't surprise me because rumours about Cliff Richards have been swirling round for over thirty years to my knowledge. Whether there is any basis for them is another matter. We shall just have to trust the justice system and wait and see.

The feeling, as I watch and listen to the news, that we are living on the set of a particularly bad soap opera. This is triggered mainly by the fact that South Yorkshire police alerted the media to the raid on Cliff Richard's apartment, that's why they had reporters there and a helicopter in the air over the site. A long way removed form the old bobby on the beat in his cape and carrying a night stick.....
The poor people found in the locked container at Tilbury. God alone knows how long they have been in there....

How cool the weather is. Bit of a shock after our good summer. Lit the stove for an hour or two yesterday to make sure the flue is clear and ready for winter!

We have another Icelandic name to remember! Bardarbunga. See THIS for the BBC report of an orange alert for a large volcano under a glacier. When Eyjafjallajökull did this in 2010 it played hell with air traffic over Europe.

That £20 for two good cleaners for an hour every four weeks is a good thing. I try to keep standards up but the house looks better when they have been. I'm glad my daughters forced me into it! Carpet cleaning will happen next week after Bank Holiday.

I don't normally notice football news but see THIS for news about disturbing in-fighting and allegations of racism. One thing is certain, if you are going to do this by text or email you are broadcasting it to the world....

Maz, that's the trouble with grandchildren, you can't make them yourself! On that programme about the big Crossrail engineering project the man in charge was about 70 and his two sons were also managers on the project. At one point it showed him with a son on each side, all three of them very big blokes. When somebody commented how big his sons were he looked at the one of the left and said "I made him in 3 minutes!" and then looked at the other son and said "I made him in 3 minutes too! One of the sons then said "But Mum always said it took less time than that!"

Ha...Mum is probably closer to the mark!

The world is changing and our children seem happier living alone with their pets, than getting hitched...and I can see the positives in that.
However, I am always impressed to meet folk who have been married for many years and have withstood the trying times. I think it is quite an achievement. As is becoming GREAT Grandparents...

We thought that too at one time Maz, we thought we were going to have to kidnap to get grandchildren, then just like buses they all came at once. Now we have Ruby followed by Isla a year later and a couple of years after that our Finlay. That's from two of our kids, one more to go!

Congratulations to Bodge :welcome: to the new addition.

Nice one both of you. These kids don't seem to realise that the only reason we go to the trouble of rearing them is so that we can have grandchildren
What grabbed me was the nurse at the foot clinic telling me that I had nice calves and my feet were the best for the mileage she could remember! Small thing but encouraging... She also noted the complete absence of varicose veins. I told her I put it down to good genes and lots of cycling in my youth.

See THIS for the latest news on Bardarbunga, the volcano under the Dyngjujökul. Glacier in Iceland. Overflying has been banned but the airlines say that even if the eruption breaks through, current weather patterns are against it widely affecting Europe.

Stanley, you may have seen them, but you didn't caress them!

Lots of things attracted my attention yesterday:
unexpected arrival of donkeys at Beach...
a lovely bonus prize of a full english breakfast - complete with frying pan - donated by market traders as a Duck Race prize...
loads of people sat at pavement tables in the sun on Albert Road...
more sign posts replaced in the town centre...
colourful displays on the market stalls...
our black cats on the beach...
new Doctor Who...

but this was particularly piquant...
