Ah..whew!...I was dreading he was ill, or that one of his cooking implements had exploded and buried him under a layer of Beef and Onions...no doubt with an egg on top... :laugh5:

Wendy is right. Far too busy to post when Pluggy got the site back on line.Last two days I have been eating the green leaf stew, finished it last night for tea. It just got better and better....

A fresh bag of Baby Spinach inspired me to make some pastry today and make Cheese and Baby Spinach Tartlets.
One each for dinner, with Salad, and 'tuthers in freezer.

Football is on this evening, so hubby has requested a small meat pie, baked beans and mash for dinner ( must add to the football experience? :laugh5: )
So that is pastry two days in a row for us...most unusual...no more pastry this week!
Back to Salad tomorrow.

I had a meat pie fresh out of Kath's oven for breakfast yesterday so thin ham and tomato butties for dinner and tea with a small pork pie as a filler . Fruit for pudding.

After having our meals made at the Eden Arms Hotel in County Durham it was hard coming back and thinking what to have. Last night I made Lamb Steaks & leeks in a mint flavoured gravy with new potatoes & garden peas. Tonight is something with chicken thighs but haven't decided what yet.
Say only a little but say it well.

We are in a similar position Moh with just returning from a week of Greek cuisine which we love. Plenty of variation and never a bad meal to be had at any of the restaurants in Alikes. Sally is vegetarian and I'm a beast eater so plenty on offer for both of us when eating out in the islands. I have a piece of brisket doing it's thing in the slow cooker and there will be a roasting tin of veg going in the oven which will see to both of us at tea time.

How lovely to have a break from cooking. I certainly get sick of it from time to time. ( unfortunately my hubby doesn't cook, though in desperate emergencies he can heat beans or do packet Pasta. Having said that, even his packet Pasta is a bit dodgy!). Hope you both enjoyed your holidays...

I think it will be toasted sandwiches tonight at ours.

Last of the roast ham on a butty with tomato for dinner. Tea was grilled sausage and tomato butty and a nibble on a stick of Cheddar and a cold sausage when I got the munchies later.... A pear and two apples of course for pudding.

I started the day yesterday by putting six small two shear chops on a bed of onion with the usual additions, a chicken Oxo, vinegar, salt and pepper and slow cooked it till the meat fell off the bone. Picked out the bones and much of the fat and then added some peas, potatoes and carrots. So a good veggie stew for dinner and tea. Fruit for pudding.....

The two shear chops are doing well, had it for dinner and tea yesterday and there is still at least one good helping left. I extended it with some more peas it was so good!

Poached Tasmanian Salmon tonight, with Pasta Salad. I made up a Salad Dressing with Lime, Lemon, Oil, some herbs and Chilli, and Freshly Ground Black Pepper. OoLaLa! Tastes brilliant!

It sounds as though it had a bite! Finished the two shear and peas at dinner time yesterday and treated myself to two small bacon, egg and tomato butties for tea. They were small because I hadn't baked and bought two plain teacakes on the Square. They advertise as traditional bakes but I note they have a special cob at £2-10p that is called 'Traditional Leavened Bread'. This signals to me that the rest of their bread isn't traditional but Chorley Wood Process. I have a loaf in the machine, I know that it is 'traditional'! The two teacakes cost 72p, I can bake a full sized loaf for that amount....

Grilled pork chop for dinner and I built another two shear stew very slowly during the day. Had it plus spuds and carrots for tea. Lovely especially the carrots, they are wonderful this year!

The two shear stew extended with more spuds and carrots did me for dinner and tea and daughter Susan had a helping as well at dinner time. Quite amazing how far a piece of meat will go if treated properly.

I got the end of the roast ham off the cooked meat shelf yesterday and so had ham and beetroot butty for dinner and ham and tomato for tea. I was very naughty and got a Yorkshire Brack fruit cake.... Had that at dinner and tea for a treat. Ordered a couple of boxes of two shear from Stewart to fill the freezer, as usual, small joints and all the cheap cuts. Winter stews!

The vacuum packed plain boiled beetroot they sell at Chaudrey's are fine and a lot less trouble.
Haslett and tomato butty for dinner, two small pork pies for tea. Fruit for pudding...

Almost any vegetable improves if you roast it. I like deep fried carrots as well. Think of veg roasted nestling up against a good piece of meat, parsnips in particular benefit.

Sorry Stanley I have to disagree there. I roasted cauliflower yesterday and it was awful. I had a recipe for soup that said to roast it first so I thought I'd try it. Shocking.

I did say 'almost' Liz. I'd never dream of roasting cauliflower! Think of roast lettuce.....
Grilled two small burgers with tomatoes and olive oil. Then cut them up and popped them in with a tin of beans and a tin of tomatoes and cooked it slowly for an hour to get everything combined. Made a lovely meat sauce to go with chips for dinner and tea.
