I read in the Evening Telegraph that the good people of Colne were mustering their troops against a possible planning application to built upward of 360 houses on land adjacent to Windermere Avenue / Castle Road. Nobody must have told them that the outcome of this battle has already been decided in the Pendle Council Chambers. They have of course fallen for the old three card trick that events like this can be decided on the day with banners and flag waving when apparently unknown to them the battle caravan has already moved on. No doubt we will see many more of these fruitless objections when the ‘Contractors’ deem it viable to build more houses. A list of the impending ‘Battle Sites’can been seen on a previous post by David Whipp. Don’t blame him he has been let down by other buffoons on the council

Mail from My ISP Talktalk saying that they have finished upgrading the mail servers to cope with increased demand and normal service will now be possible. However included in the mail is this: "We have taken lots of learnings from this,". They need to work on their grammar now.....

The high level of rather pointless "gritting" over the last two nights on the high speed link road/lane twixt A59 and A56. I use the term "high speed" as this is what it has become, a second saving "rat run"!! The speed restrictions from the A59 through to Salterforth are for the greater part simply ignored, and its no longer just the frantic commuters, the volume of heavy goods transport has dramatically increased. This has also now become a 24/7 problem and despite double glazing, ear defenders in bed are now a consideration.

A planning application listed in the B&E Times from Post Office Counters for a change of use for Earby Post Office.....into a cafe/tea room. Are we about to lose the Post Office in Earby or is it going elsewhere?

The main Post Office in the centre of Bridgwater was closed a few years ago to save money and one was opened as part of a nearby store. Then the store closed and the town was left without a main Post Office and people working in town had to go out of the centre to small post offices!

Mmm, looks like the current PO is definitely closing very soon, but are there plans to relocate? From the application it looks as if the current owners of the building who run the Post Office now might continue to live there if it gets planning for change of use.

Nice pic, not a Tory councillor in sight... It'll be icy this morning, we have the hardest frost so far this winter. Stove lighting today!

Burnley main post office closed down and it now in W H Smiths - nowhere to park for disabled people and having to go past all the men reading the magazines instead of buying them.

More erosion of services Moh. There will be lots more of this over the next five years at least...
What grabbed me was that when I brewed my early morning coffee in the glass jug that used to be part of my coffee percolator I found it had cracked round the bottom and was leaking. Not knocked or dropped, just the result of repeated thermal shock on the glass. Always sad to see the demise of an old friend.... I shall have to go for Plan 'B' but at the moment I'm not sure what that is!
THIS grabbed me as well. What does it say about our economic position when Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, calls for £150million state funding for food banks in the UK? Millions of people are facing the worst Xmas in living memory, can't afford heat and food, let alone Xmas presents for the kids.... It is disgraceful.....

My quiet Sunday was upset today when I heard a helicopter overhead. Sometimes we have them checking on local schools for vandals etc, and it only takes them a few minutes then they are on to the next school. But today they were circling for over an hour (oh! the noise) and it wasn't over the schools. 2 parolees had stolen a car from across town (1/2hr to 45mins away) and given the Police a merry car chase. The parolees car crashed at our local traffic intersection, the parolees fled on foot to a nearby house. The homeowners were stepping out of their front door when they heard an upstairs window smash, it was the parolees breaking in! Some homeowners were evacuated and there was a stand-off for a while until the Police could arrest the parolees. All the time this was happening the helicopter was still patrolling overhead. Arrests done and peace resumed.
All this drama happening just up the road, honestly don't they know it's Sunday!!

Comrade! I forgot to join in the birthday wishes yesterday. Many happy returns. (I am 79 on February 14th by the way.....)
Call me an old Scrooge but the first thought that came into my mind when I saw those Santas was to wonder where the suits were made and whether the workers got a decent wage. I know! But it's the way my mind works...
Main event was a very exciting Master's final last night, Judd Trump was 9-4 down, Ronnie only needed one more frame and then Trump produced 5 winning frames on the trot when he played superb snooker. Ronnie won the last frame.... Nail-biting stuff!

The build everywhere brigade are at it again. Planning permission has been submitted for 36 houses behind the ‘Sacred Heart’ primary school on Red Lane Colne. This a crying shame. The school enjoys possible one of the most idyllic situations of any school in Pendle. Surrounded completely by open fields, the Headmaster makes full use of the ‘country’ position and places great emphasis on outdoor activities. Now, no doubt under Mr Cooney’s chairmanship, we will see this school surrounded by urban development. I hope that the FULL council will see that a good educational environment is in the long term better that short term profit or political point scoring.
For those sceptics viewing this post I must declare that I have no connection with the school nor will I be affected by the building per se. My only interest is in maintaining an ideal environment for generations to come.

No need to build on ANY greenfield sites as far as I can see. The decimation of industry over the last 40 years has made sure there is and abundance of brownfield sites to go at. Might need a bit more work but so be it, the planners and builders should be forced to use these and get on with it rather than leaving them as eyesores for years. Once the green has gone you can't get it back, well not until we have wrecked the planet completely. Then the Gaia principle will take over to mend it, it may not include mankind though.
