Its Dad's old army Jack Knife. A Wilson Sheffield 1941. What I didn't realize was how many different makers there were. Jack Knives. Another little puzzle.. ' Why JACK Knives. Were all military personnel called Jack's as in Jack Tar?

The spike on the back of the original jack knife was for splicing ropes not taking stones out of horse's hooves and so was named after 'Jack Tar'. Try this one....

Dead easy, it's a bobbin for holding thread but obviously not a domestic cotton reel. So what could it be for?
