I like that one Wendy, looking again one side is not pointy enough for piercing.

...or olives (but not in my kitchen drawer...).
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I thought it might be for tamping down fresh tobacco into his pipe...perhaps he keeps his pipe and tobacco in the kitchen drawer?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
No, Wendy got it right and yes it would work for cherries as well.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I agree with Dead Coral but to hedge my bets I'll also say A Natural Sponge.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Ouch...don't think so Big Kev, as it has been photographed on carpet!
I'd say it is a calcium based deposit though ( such as coral or calculus)

I couldn't see that it was carpet, I'm looking at it on my phoneMarilyn wrote:Ouch...don't think so Big Kev, as it has been photographed on carpet!

I'm with Wendy on this one, pipe cleaners. Or gun barrel pull-throughs or whatever you call them.
It's hairy so wouldn't that rule out calcium based things?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I have to agree actually, it does indeed appear hairy on close inspection and there is a manufactured element to each strand...with the tiny black dot in each one. So difficult when you can only use one of our senses in this game! I was plumping for a hard object, not a softer one.
But given it's scale against the carpet fibres, I am now going to take a left field stab and say it could be a very worn out and overused dish mop. I'm not sure if they have another name, but I am sure you know what I mean, Stanley.
And if I am right...you need to buy a new one, as this one needs to go to dish mop heaven.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
It's either an oil thingy for a mill machine or a taper holder ( but I know they are not called tapers...they have another name...and its on the tip of my tongue...( and I am going to sit quietly in a dark room until it comes to me...and if it doesn't...it's hot bath and razor blades for me...well...maybe not...I still have several crates of wine in the pantry and there is no point in pre-dating their demise....

You would have got it if you were as old as me Maz....young things like yourself wont remember spending hours making little animals and dolls out of pipe cleaners and scraps of wool. Just the sight of them in that photo makes me want to tug one free from the bundle and start shaping it into a little dog or something. Exotic stuff like coral is totally outside my experience!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I think we got to play with things called pipe cleaners, but the were all brightly coloured, and not at all what people " just a sensation" older than me would have recognised as pipe cleaners.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I think the new object is (part of) an old lamp/lantern that you fill with oil / kerosene and hang on the wall.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.
