Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had a silk headscarf woven as a twill. If you rubbed it between your fingers one way it was rough but at 90 degrees was perfectly smooth. I was addicted to it! When we evacuated to Burrs Mount in Derbyshire because of the bombing they forgot it so I spent two nights going to sleep with Mrs Hancock's corset.....

I see. Hope it was Mrs. Hancock's clean/spare corset..
My son used to sleep face down on his lamb skin and bury his face into it. Hopefully it wasn't the same for you and Mrs. Hancock's corset.
I can't remember ever having a special item/toy/rug for comfort. I must ask Cazza, she may remember if I did.
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Its really soft fabric with an animal head. She cuddles anything soft. Someone gave her a proper doll, she hates it, It is hard to believe Erin is nearly 15 months pl now after all the trauma of her birth.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Sorry to say Maz but I think I must have blocked an awful lot out, but I do remember you falling into the fire at Fountain Street and Dad immediately rolling you up in the hearth rug. Personally I can't remember having any particular 'comfort' item ( I wonder if any of us did).
I do remember your Son having a Glow Worm toy that was his night-time pal.

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I remember the bum burning incident. They put me on a table and rubbed butter on me bum.
I actually remember that exact instant of flames around me, and the view of the room from where I was sitting in the fire, with Dad to my right. Weird to think of it. I had been trying to back up to Dad to sit on his knee...but he didn't have his catcher's mitt on! I remember the crackle and sizzling in my ears.
No lasting damage...( but I am not providing photographic evidence)
Yes, son had a glow worm. He still has it in the load of bits I saved for him. He loved that Glow Worm. ( green and you put batteries in his tummy. Face glows when kids squeeze it in the night)

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Kids comforters, I cant remember having anything other than my teddy which was operated on by my older brother to see what made him growl, (he has the scars to prove it) and sits on top of our wardrobe. He is alongside Tessa Bear who is Sally's, She's a small bear who has been worried by more than one family dog and now has a patch for one eye and a completely replacement knitted ear. She sports a biker waistcoat and used to come to all the motorbike rally's with us when we were courting.
Our kids had specific comforters. Carla our eldest had a small cotton cot blanket (the bo bo) which she used to fluff up with her fingers then stroke with the back of her hand whilst falling asleep. Sally made her a teddy out of blue plush velvet which she called Blue Ted, Carla still has this, she is worn quite thin now but it still goes with her when she takes her class to residential camp school. She says it shows solidarity with the kids. Dan had a hand made Blue Ted as well and he always made the point that it was slightly bigger than Carlas. Our Jack had Effie the Tusker which I'm sure you could guess was an elephant.
Grandchildren, Ruby has Miffy who is a bit of a cross between a rabbit and a bear. Isla has Poo Bear and Eeyore which are both the small soft square blankets with the head in the corner type beasties and Finlay has Rabbit which is another variant. Poo, Eeyore and Rabbit all have doppelgangers (for washing purposes and in case of forgetfulness). All are probably lifetime friends although they will deny this as they all get a bit older.
Our kids had a one trick "ting tong" (Brahms Lullaby cot mobile). The grandchildren have multitrack audio with soothing classical jingles, waterfall effects and birdsong coupled with projected stars or sheep on the ceiling to send them off with fairies.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I've always been a sucker for a good soft toy. You'll find them in surprising places all over my house to this day! Here are two of my favourites, very aristocratic Liberty frogs made of a lovely silk brocade and filled with very heavy small beads. They live with two more frogs guarding some of my books. A young mother mailed me only a few weeks ago to say that her baby was playing with the stuffed dinosaur I gave her more years ago than I care to remember.....
Not sure what I shall be doing today but you have reminded me that it's perhaps time my soft toys were popped into the machine for a cool wash....

Our normal walk this morning, then an afternoon bike ride along the river, which we both enjoyed.
A lovely, sunny day. Some spectacular colours in the trees...

Going to Preston for dressings change. I had a teddy which still lives on the spare bed, minus most of his fur, one leg and half an ear - well he is 77years old.......
Say only a little but say it well.

In the shed, developing a straight turning job into a small project..... Must keep myself occupied!
07:15. I've been a good lad.... Washing done and hung to dry, all my little jobs done.... I can go in the shed with a clear conscience and a straight edge. I am a creature of habit and this is how I function best and think most clearly.... A good day in prospect, I wish you all the same....

Nice weather for it. I continued to be a good lad. I remade the bed with the clean sun dried duvet covers on.... Looking forward to my afternoon sleep. If I could afford the help I'd have fresh sheets dried outside every day of the week!

Oh yes I agree, I love sun dried bedding, towels etc too. I don't have a clothes dryer machine, even if I did I think I would only use it in the depths of winter. I feel sorry for people who live in high-rise apartments.

Morning Cathy.... Or people living in climates where sometimes you can't hang them out! It must have worked, I overslept a quarter of an hour this morning.
I will be looking for my boiled linseed oil this morning for my jointing paste experiment.

Living at street level is handy if you have a mobility scooter. You aren't relying on lifts.....
I shall be passing time away playing in my beloved shed as usual. It's wonderful to have something that fully engages your mind, especially when other avenues like reading are barred!

Having fabulous weather here in the Lakes. Not much walking going on but a lot of chilling out and people watching. Catching the bus to Coniston today then walking back to Langdale through the woods. Got my new wild flower book to help identify the lovely wild flowers which are better than ever this year. Claire, Adam and Erin are arriving today for the rest of the week.

Sounds good Sue but the forecast for the next few days indicates a change. Check the waterproofs!
Maz, chocolate biscuits will not help weight loss and sex is far too much trouble these days..... The closest I have got to it recently was when the diabetic nurse asked me if I suffered from erectile dysfunction.... we had a good laugh about that!
Today is shopping day so shed might be curtailed a bit.......
