Wendy has it, Beautifully made by a blacksmith with a box joint. For cutting block sugar up into manageable chunks. Gloria was very close actually, 'Nose pincers' made in exactly the same way but with round knobs instead of cutting blades were an essential tool for us at Drinkall's when we were restraining fiery cows for milking or minor medical procedures.

It's a bit difficult to castrate a cow Cathy! And I think the RSPCA might object if you tried them on a bull (and you'd probably end up in hospital)!

I'm with Ian on the condensate vapor pipe from a dryer.
Cathy, what you have seen is probably a 'cord stop castrator. Iy looks similar and was a clever little piece of kit that enabled you to cut the cord down to the testicles without any incision. Never became widely used and I haven't used one.

The ridges suggest either flexibility or an aid to allowing for expansion. (A scale would be nice.....) So I'll add to Ian's guess that it is designed to cope with expansion and contraction.....

I like that Wendy because it explains something that puzzled me. The moulding marks don't line up as they would if it was homogeneous. Yes, I am now with Wendy!

It's mainly a matter of `in case I need them' and they often get used for mixing paint, filler etc or just storing stuff. But when Mrs Tiz sees your post my stock might get raided - I'd better go and hide them now!

Difficult to see scale but looks very much like a fuel jet nipple for a Primus stove, hole is a bit big though. Could be off a lubrication system?

For connecting up a pipeline or some other sort of tubing to a device, but I don't know what device. A gas line perhaps?
