Certainly the wedding wine!

Great day, in fact the best most relaxed wedding I have been to in many a long year. Went near your p,ace Wendy on the way back from Bingley , via Colne and Boundary Mill.

Yesterday actually. Getting rid of the Sony HD recorder for the TV meant I had space under the telly so I had a reorganisation and got a shelf full of my babies.... It's all very well making things in the shed and I love doing it but even though I have given four engines away the museum (house!) is getting full!

There will soon be another one as well......

Cracking on with the lubricator. When I have that finished there is another small task, replacing the abestos seal on the door of the Morso stove in preparation for the heating season which I am afraid is imminent!

I have been tidying the garden since we came back, luckily that is finished in time for today's rain. Now is the day to turn my mind to packing again as we set off on our Canada and USA trip on Saturday.

We are flying to Vancouver and visiting a cemetery on Victoria Island where the half brother of my grandfather is buried ( to those who have known me for a long time this is Percy Widdup son of John Widdup of Barnoldswick) . Then we are visiting some botanical gardens there before setting off to drive through the Rockies to Calgary. We are stopping at Lake Loiuse for a few nights and meeting up with another genealogical find. Michael Hartley lives in Nelson Canada but was born in Nelson Lancashire. We share many family names and are related several times over through different family lines. From Calgary we fly to San Francisco and drive two hours north to Willits to stay with my cousin, a genealogical find on my Maylard line. Herb and I have met several times over the last few years and we are all looking forward to this reunion. We are there a week then fly home, being away three weeks in total.,we are both really looking forward to the Rockies, it is somewhere we gave always wanted to go.

All in all a holiday that would not have been possible but for my genealogical research. My dad would have loved it.

Is it the Butchart Gardens you are visiting? That was one of the highlights of our trip. It was where we saw a hummingbird. Lake Louise was one of my favourite places ever. How fantastic that you can tie your trip in with 'family ties' as well. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it.

That sounds like a good trip Sue. I envy you because I never got further north of SF than Marin County and always had a hankering to see the big trees and the Rockies.... Good luck with it and I hope you both have a whale of a time.
I think I could have been right about the onset of the heating season... the CH cracked on during the night. I am geared up for replacing the seals on the stove and while I am at it I'll check the bend in the bottom of the flue to ensure nothing had dropped during the summer. I gave it all a through clean in the spring so I'm not expecting any surprises....

Yes that is it Liz. We are meeting up with two genealogical friends in Canada, both families originate from Salterforth in the early 1800s. We are not directly related to each other but we share family names, and I suspect DNA too.

No current project in the shed so a good clean up and a potter. If all goes well I expect my shaper and some castings to arrive tomorrow when I get a visit from Mick the Shed....

I shall start stripping the shaper down today and getting it back into top condition. From the look of it it has hardly had any use at all.....

Marking the start of another stage in my life, my father's funeral today promises to be a celebration of his life. I have never known anyone with so many condolence cards, fully 50 if there is 1! His epitaph, as a sportsman, is "well played Gordon".

Sorry to hear that Julie but if we live long enough we have to get used to living without them.... I hope it won't be too cold, funerals are always chilly affairs. Wrap up warm!

Are you an orphan now Julie?
Apart from the shed main projects today are getting phone fixed and defrosting the freezer.... Cold air is flowing round my feet as I speak as the door is wide open. Not a big job with this fridge, it defrosts very quickly if you put a couple of pans of boiling water on the shelves.... Then I'll be ready for another two shear fill up ready for winter!
06:00. Freezer done and dusted, dried and cleaned and switched back on. Another little job out of the way....

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your father Julie. As recounted elsewhere on OG, my father died in July and Mrs Tiz's mother died about a fortnight ago. As Mrs Tiz's sister put it, "It's the end of an era".

Tiz, it's the story of life isn't it. First we have to cope with circumstances and then we have to deal with change.... No escaping it I'm afraid!
Having a normal day but I now have a number for Talktalk's Network Team and can ring them from 9AM this morning..... I live in hope....

Not an orphan yet, mother is still going. Thanks for your kind thoughts. Tizer you are right, it does put a full stop at the end of a big part of your life. We gave him a good sending off, a humanist funeral with photographs of him throughout his life projected onto the facing wall while the celebrant read out memories submitted by close family and friends.

Good thing Julie... The reason I asked the question was that it wasn't until a close friend asked it of me when my mother died that I realised that almost all of us become orphans eventually.
You know where I'll be later, lovely to have a productive interest....
