When I had a look round the old Co-op during demolition in 1983 they were throwing all sorts of goodies into the skips and I rescued the rubber stamps, a five foot wooden cloth rule and the wooden foot measurer from the shoe department. I know, I'm a pack rat but I can't bear seeing good artefacts thrown out....

It's obviously a knife but it had a very specialised use....

I've seen this type used in weaving sheds for cutting across the warp threads when beaming. It's just a suggestion because I'm sure they will have hundreds of other uses too.

They were used for that China and that is really a correct answer. However, the common name for them and another very similar use is what I am after. You're on the right track!

Is it a container of CD's?

I immediately thought that the circular shiny coloured disc was a CD, but they come in square surrounding cases, at first I thought it was a candle holder but it doesn't have a finger slot/handle. ??

If you buy them in bulk Cath they often come in circular plastic boxes with a spindle in the centre to locate the disks. I can see a symbol and the letters `PS' which is for recycling: the PS indicates polystyrene. CDs are made from polycarbonate, so I guess the letters and symbol are on the transparent box. Ordinary CD cases are made from PS and probably the round ones too.

Assuming Liz got it right I'll be cheeky and jump in with the next object. (If we are wrong about CDs then don't let's give up on Stanley's object though.) What's this in the photo below?
