Thankyou Karen.
If I ever get over to Blighty again, I shall be sure to visit Bracewell as we have a few relations there including grandparents.

Once again ( I have mentioned this before), I find that a long interim between death and burial ( died on the 5th - burial on the 18th). But maybe that is the way things are nowadays.
We get them sorted a bit quicker over here.

I'll be there Karen if my back has sorted itself out, at the moment it wouldn't be possible.

Hi Marilyn. It is a long time and that is quite unusual here too especially in a rural area. Unfortunately our family is spread hither and yon from Plymouth to Dundee and over to Germany so we had to delay to ensure everyone could come. Whilst it will be a very sad occasion I'm sure grandad will be glad to know we were all there. I do hope that if you do indeed get back to Blighty you do manage to visit the church. It's such a lovely peaceful place as I'm sure you know. It always make me feel better anyway. Stan I hope your back gets better soon.

Isn't it at Bracewell Stanley? If so don't attempt to walk back unless you are coming across the fields, which is probably not a practical option. Bracewell Lane is a race track at the best of times with no footpath. I will pick you up if you wish, lets get you back in one piece.

Bloody Hell Ian, you're right! Thank God you spotted that.... I must be getting old.... I'll stick with Susan going down seeing as that is arranged. If you are going to be there can you give me a lift back?

This news doesn't seem to have spread far, in the media, from Cambridge yet.

Sir David McKay

Remarkable blog - the link is in the article. I've had a quick look, and he does not seem to have been able to accept what was happening - even up to the end. Must admire his determination though.

Thanks for mentioning him, Tripps, and for the link. I've come across his name often in connection with climate change and sustainable energy and heard him on the radio but I hadn't heard about his cancer. Only 48 years old. His blog is amazing, still writing on 12th April. I recommend in particular reading the 10th April section where he has a go at the hospital for lack of efficient, modern temperature control on the ward. His writing is pithy, for example: "In front of and slightly taller than the window sill are two killer robots., also known as enormous radiators. These 1.6m wide times 1.2m high impositions steadily belch out, I don't know, kilowatts of heat into our room. [I bet this heat counts as wonderful "green" heat and gets special government credit thanks to being produced by combined heat and power... but that's another rant.]"

Another example: "The hospital has shelled out thousands of pounds per bed on useless telephone-TV devices, which sit unused above every bed, switching themselves on automatically, glowing away and causing light pollution. The existence of these absurd telephone-TV installations proves that the hospital is able to retrofit modern technology into its wards. It just happens to be the wrong technology and a waste. So how about spending a similar amount of money, per bed, on making sensible, patient-centred controls for maintaining a pleasant ambient temperature? "

What a man. What a loss.
