Don't get fixated on allergies Christian. Work on the premise that you ate something that disagreed with you and go on a bland diet avoiding dairy products until you feel better. I survived Botulism in the 1950s and nobody mentioned allergies! There are good grounds for thinking that the cheapest red colourings used in bog standard red cordial is a good thing. In Oz if you go to Thailand for a holiday a couple of bottles of concentrate always figure in the luggage!
Not sure what I'll be doing today apart from shopping. I am attracted to reading Joseph Stiglitz's new book on the Euro......

Reading Stiglitz, an important view of Europe and the Euro from a man with a proven track record including a Nobel Prize. I wonder how many of our leaders are taking the time to clarify their views on Europe by doing the same?

Today we shall pick the blackberry glut. It's the only soft fruit that has done well this year. We have a hedge 150 m long, it is going to take some time. All hands on deck I think. It will have to be done this morning as this afternoon will be too hot.
Wendy and I are also going to give our French friend a lesson in oil painting this afternoon.

First time we have awoken to rain in 7 weeks, more like fine mist. I think it is due to clear later. We plan to go out for lunch and then go to one of the three local events we found online. It's an introduction to Wendy and Keith of a typical French Sunday

We had the same weather here Sue.
I shall be continuing my Stiglitz today and looking forward to Wednesday when Janet Geldard and Susan come and we will sign the final application for registering the LPAs. Then they go to Oz by surface mail for Margaret and Janet to sign. Janet G will then send them off to be registered. We are looking to be on track for having them done and dusted by Xmas.

Dull hot morning. It's due to get hotter and sunnier again this week. Wendy and Keith fly home tomorrow. We have had a good week. We go home on the ferry on Friday. Where did two months go?

Off to another local market this morning, a last fling of French market life. It will be quiet I think as tourists have gone and the children went back to school last week.

My lovely little grand daughter Briony starts school today!

My morning has been delightfully torpedoed by an hour on the phone with my friend Martha in Somerset. It's the first time we have got up to date since Keele and I felt no pain.....

Taking Wendy and Keith back to Dinard to catch the plane home. A walk on the beach and lunch before they leave. Then it's the big tidy up before our return on Friday.

Nice three and a half hours in the shed yesterday. Good work and no cock-ups! I'm itching to get on but will be hampered a bit today because I have some household tasks and we finalise the LPA registration forms later in the morning. No worries! There is no pressure on me apart from the compulsion to do a perfect job so I'm in no rush.

At a Friends of Clarion meeting and then a working party for general maintenance of the building and site. Don't know what Ruth has planned for us so a selection of footwear. We could be painting, gardening or mowing the lawn and field. Butties are packed and the Clarion can provide multiple brews as required.

My Clarion duties turned out to be 3 hours (with a break for lunch) mowing. Done the lawn, part of the field, which I abandoned lower down as it was too wet and all the pathways. Ready for a sit down now!

I felt the same after shed, gutter clearing and roof inspection, house cleaning and wrapping up the LPA registration applications..... Only two errands today, drop the co-ax cable off at Garry's and get my pills from the chemist. I shall be doing some careful threading of the back plate..... that's the main event.

Question from the uninitiated, Friends of Clarion, is this to do with Clarion House?

Yes Julie, the group was formed to provide support and maintenance for the buildings and grounds a couple of years ago. It's independent of the ILP Land Society who own and run Clarion House but operates in conjunction and close cooperation with the Society. You don't need to hold a share certificate in the land society to be a friend of the Clarion.

Clarion House is open to all of course, some users and visitors are members of the ILP who hold a single share in the society, others are members of the friends who provide support, some are not members of either and regularly come to enjoy the facilities and banter. We are the last surviving Clarion in the country so do whatever we can to keep it going.

Dad and his brother went to Sunday School at Clarion House and he thought that he took me there also. I have vague memories but we left Nelson in 1961 when I was 5. I do have a book on Clarion House, it mentions a chap (who I think was James) Butterfield who was dad's godfather and quite a mover in the ILP.

Is that "Clarion House a Monument to a Movement" by Roger Brown and Stan Iveson? Both friends of mine, Stan died a number of years ago now, Roger taught me how to print with an offset litho and still serves on at the Clarion with his mate Jim.

I take it you have seen this topic on Stan - Including his account of The Only Plumber in Walton Gaol:
