David and Pluggy have it. It's a tiny but fully functional screw jack exactly like the big ones used for lifting heavy weights before the Drybolic jack was invented. This one is used in milling operations to steady a workpiece that overhangs the vise. try this one.....



Yes, it's a spirit level but tiny and very specialised. Ian will know this one, hang back a bit and let them struggle!

Well done David! Spot on. I saw it when the old one came down off the roof. I didn't know they had a built in level to help the aerial fitters get them aligned properly. (I'll bet Ian knew....)

Well I too never knew those dishes had a level in them. Did they have a compass too?

I was watching one of my favourite machinists on Youtube, Adam Booth and he showed a little screw Jack exactly like mine.... I mailed him and shouted Snap!

It looks like a small bridge that has been closed off with a different mix of materials than the rest of the structure.

Is it the blocked off end of the redundant bridge behind the Lock-keepers cottage?

Stanley's nailed it, and Tizer is right too.

This is the bridge on the original route of the canal at Greenberfield which became redundant when the canal company altered the course.

The original line passes behind what's now called Greenberfield Cottage and can be seen as the old course rejoins the current route below the bottom lock. The route included a wasteful 'double riser' lock. With greater use of the canal than anticipated and problems of water shortages, the canal company built a diversion using separate locks which saved water.

Before the present occupants, the old bridge had some stabling built inside it built of concrete blocks but this has been cleared away.

China is right. It's a connector used to join the two ends of a copper tape lightning conductor..... Next for shaving?

I believe one of our most famous naval military heroes, whose statue can be see on a pile of stone, refused to be buried there because it was built on a bog. So to add to Tizer's mystery 'who and where?
