I still use saccharin tablets. The ones I am using at the moment are dated: exp 09/2011. Not done me any harm yet.

I agree with Cathy, artificial sweetener dispenser.

I couldn't believe it the other day when we were sat in our camp chairs out the back of beyond...when hubby read the Tomato Sauce bottle and declared it 3 days out of date! ( new one in cupboard at home and I had only packed the almost empty one for the trip as neither of us generally bother with Sauce). I checked it and declared it ok, as it was a "best before" date...not a use by date. So he used it quite happily after that.

Mystery object. We have seen it before, but darned if I can remember what it is.
Does it still have the original contents in it I wonder? Like 1970's Tic Tacs or similar? ( because I wouldn't put it past you Stanley).

My brother will bring me a new supply when he comes here next April but that doesn't mean I'll throw away my old ones. Saccharin is a stable chemical.

Nicotine Tablets. Miners used them to prevent withdrawal symptoms down the pit. Lighting up for a quick fag was frowned upon just in case the whole caboodle went 'bang'. They are still available I believe.

Wendy got it. It's snuff...... I still have a supply if anyone wants any! China, no such thing as nicotine tablets then but you are right about chewing tobacco. Most miners chewed 'Lady's Brown' a thin twist but many used plug tobacco. The last Condor Plug I ever got hold of was in a wrapper overprinted with 'NCB STORES'. When Thatcher and Heseltine closed the coal industry down Condor and the other makers stopped making plug tobacco. I haven't seen any for years....
I have a story for you. A farmer in Scotland once gave me a two ounce plug of Battleaxe. Good tobacco but too strong for me so I gave it to a mate at Gisburn market. Months later he told me it was the best tobacco he had ever had. It was so strong he gave up pipe smoking!
