You've both identified it as part of the new fiver - but it's not a hologram. Our Aussie friends have this on their banknotes, although they might not have noticed...

When I saw my first plasticy fiver the young girl, they're all young girls nowadays, showed me the UV light image. which was actually in a different place on the new one against the old one. Read all about it Here.

This a pic of our new $5 note and as you can see the bird is clear against a dusky sort of pale pink.
I feel a bit short - changed...:)

Both images are created with fluorescent ink and are visible under ultraviolet light. What Cath is seeing on her note is the bird printed with normal ink. The one printed in fluorescent ink is lower down and over the signature. When you next go to the bank Cath ask the teller to show you the note under a fluorescent lamp. Some shops might also be able to do it. I've been able to see the image on our plastic note because I'm nerdy and have a small UV lamp that I use for testing mineral and crystal specimens as part of my geology interest. :cool4: Plaques has given a link to the security features of UK notes; here's a link to the Oz equivalent: Australian notes

Here's what Cath's Australian note would look like under UV light. Note that the UV bird is lower than the daylight bird. Image

I could be very cruel to David but I'm not going to be. He is too close to dismiss. They are replacement cutting jaws for my big Record Bolt Cutters.

Judging from the symbols I'd say it was the coat of arms of the Worshipful Company of Vegetarian Prison Officers.

How about St Peter's Wort. Hypericum tetrapterum . A new plaque in the Memorial Gardens perhaps. The 'Keys' being associated with St Peter and placed on the edge of Barlick to ward off evil.

I'd guess it is relatively modern and has Roman Catholic associations. The Catholic school?

Wow!

Sorry, none of the above, humorous or otherwise, correct.

Surprised this hasn't been cracked yet, but maybe someone's maintaining a holy silence?

Stanley is heading in the right direction...

I don't know about a forestry link, but thinking of images of the Germanic Wars, there could well be.

"..your going round and round with this one!"
Is it on the wall of a spiral staircase in the tower of a Barlick church?
