Pedant post.

If you had a brain the size of a planet your head would explode! You can't measure intellect as a physical size it is just the number of neurons you have control of and you have millions of those just like everyone else. You just have control of more of them in certain functional areas and you will have deficits in other areas just like the rest of us. :extrawink:

And the number of crosslinks between those neurones. The more you think, study, analyse etc the more links are formed.

Indeed Tiz. I have re routed a lot of links learning to walk again. Some routes still unavailable though which leaves me with the deficit of drop foot and toes that don't work properly on my right foot.

If you read those Pratchett novels you'd be sending for an Igor who'd take you apart and put you back together again with all the right bits in the right places.

A question for all our boiler buffs on here. We have been watching Fred Dibnah talking about Lancashire Boilers, I know the Lancashire boiler was developed and Patented by Sir William Fairbairn, but what company made them and where were they from?

Not certain Gloria but Daniel Adamson at Dukinfield was one of the first into making the boilers and introduced improvements, notably 'The Adamson Ring' which was an improved joint for the furnace tubes.
Galloways were making them very early on as well.

For some reason I thought it was just one company with the name Lancashire Boilers, looks like a few doing a variation of the same?

Gloria, I'm not sure but I doubt if Fairbairn ever took out a patent for the twin flued boiler because there were such boilers before. All he did was take all the other ideas and perfect the design. He must have got it right because the boilers are still in use today in many plants. Dan Adamson varied the design by improving the furnace tube rings and Galloways did the same by installing vertical circulation tubes in the back end of the furnace tubes. All the boiler makers started making Lancashire Boilers because everyone wanted one, they were such a good design. Incidentally, one of the great advantages was that the fires could be topped up alternately in the days of hand firing so that the flames from the clean fire ignited the black smoke from the green fire that had just been stoked and made for more efficient burning. This happened in the explosion box at the back of the boiler so-called because that was what happened in many cases. I could go on of course! :biggrin2:
The clocks go back at 02:00 tomorrow morning of course and we revert to GMT. See THIS Guardian article about how Covid has changed what happens as they change this year. Then think of all the custodians of public and official clocks who will be on overtime tonight!

Yesterday there was activity round the Jubilee Memorial. I had a look this morning and they have grouted the joints between the paving stones.

I didn't know that and with my problem, I'd never have found out. Strange but interesting site. Some interesting articles, with a mixture of some clever and perceptive people, and some total idiots. Not hard to see the difference though, so I'm a bit addicted to the comments.

Pratchett's `Going Postal' was published in 2004 so it's notable that he has a character who wants to become Patrician (equivalent to President) and lives in a penthouse office in Tump Tower. Also his `Making Money' novel about shady goings on in a bank preceded the credit crunch. If he was still around we'd probably find he'd written a book called `Going Viral' a couple of years ago.

Originally to make better use of daylight. The EU intends to abandon `daylight saving' in 2021 which will mean Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will be in different time zones.

They used Double Summertime during WWII as well to maximise time available in the fields.

Whatever happens here we had better not get back to using Railway Time. :extrawink:

Perhaps we should compromise and shift the clocks permanently by 30 minutes. Edward VII had the clocks at Sandringham advanced by 30 minutes because it gave more daylight time for his shooting activities!
