Afternoon tea

Afternoon tea is the new way to have a meal out. Bob fancied afternoon tea to celebrate his official arrival to retirement ie he has reached the great age of 65. I say great age because he is now older than me. For three weeks a year we are the same age! :laugh5:

Anyway we fancied the new Edwardian tea rooms in Healey Dell, which he reckoned he could manage to walk to from our house. Unfortunately they were booked up for weeks ahead so we managed to get In to NUTTERS at the top of Owd betts in Rochdale. This is what we had and what was left over. Tea was unlimited. We had a lovely afternoon.

We haven't eaten since! We feel very full. :happybd:

Very nice indeed.
Did that once with a friend ( she enjoyed it more than me as I don't have a sweet tooth). I enjoyed the tea though.

The sandwiches were delicious Stanley. We had to leave some of the sweet cakes for later because they were quite rich, but it gives us something for this afternoon with a cuppa. I like the fact that they just kept bringing pots of tea. No limit.

We had the set tea for £15 each, but you can choose whatever you wanted to make up your tiers, ie extra sandwiches or extra scones or fruit pies. It is also a lovely setting at NUTTERS. We used to go to his restaurant on the moors before he became a TV celebrity chef. What is nice is he nearly always cooks at his own restaurant and does not leave others to do it. The restaurant is not just his name.

Sounds great afternoon tea Sue and up near Owd Betts, a place I remember so well. Have not, as yet, been to Healey Dell but I believe it's an interesting place. I remember Wolstenholme quite well, Black Pits chimney, and Norden. Must have another visit there soon.

He used to own the New Inn as THE FRENCH CONNECTION, just beyond Owd Betts, now he has the manor house at Wolstenholme. The Edwardian tearooms in Healey Dell is also worth a trip, it's also a heritage centre with loads of photos of the area.

Mmm, cake :)

A friend has insisted that we go to The Midland Hotel in Morecambe for their afternoon tea for one of our tweet-ups and I'm already looking forward to it

Had afternoon tea at Foulridge yesterday, a nice tidy and very clean cafe called The Pendle Cauldron with nice, friendly staff ! They had some nice cakes on display too.
