There are more Slaters of course.

Slater. John.  Clough Mill.
John Slater and Sons were manufacturing at Clough Mill in 1860 when Bracewell Brothers (Coates) moved out.  John was a strong Baptist and helped the pastor, Thomas Bennett, to start his manufacturing enterprise in Clough Mill which was meant to find work for his flock.  In 1867 Slaters bought Clough Mill and John Slater died.  His sons, Joseph, Henry, Thomas, Clayton and James foreclosed on Bennett, bankrupted him and took over his space.  This was a major scandal in Barlick at the time.

See attached doc on Mitchell and Clough for some more clues.  John Slater also owned a silk mill at Galgate which is still standing.
