COOK INDEX ENTRIES AS OF 05 January 2005

1821.
Extracted from Yorkshire Mills by George Ingle.
In 1821 a building was advertised for sale in Barlick which had been used for cotton spinning by James Cook.

I have references of James Cook being associated with Newfield Edge at Middop (1837) and Flass House (1841 and 1844) on Brogden Lane in the electoral rolls. In the 1844 entry his place of abode was given as Nefield Edge, Middop so he was freeholder of both addresses.

1871. Census
George Cook. Farmer of Syke House, 41 years. 44acres. Same entry in Barrett for 1896.

1887 Barrett directory
Victualler at Syke House also listed as a farmer as there was land with the pub in those days.

1902
Barrett Directory. Frederick George Cook, grocer, 22 Wellhouse Road.

1902. Barrett.
Tow Willie Cook noted as Victualler at Foster’s Arms. (Syke House) and also as farmer.

c.1930.
Maggie Cook had a grocer’s shop at the top of Federation Street. See LTP; 78/AG/02.

1950s
There was an electrical retailer in Earby called Cook and Thornton.
