Will of Robert Edmondson, 1853.

I Robert Edmondson of Barnoldswick in the parish of Barnoldswick in the
West Riding of the county of York being weak in health, but of sound and
disposing mind, memory and understanding do this twenty third day of
April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three
make this my last will and testament in manner and form following,
that is to say, first I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary
expenses be paid out of the money I am possessed at the time of my decease. Also I give devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Edmondson
all those two freehold cottage houses with the appurtenances and premises
thereunto belonging situate at Barnoldswick in the West Riding of the
county of York and now or late in the tenure or occupation of John Hartley
and Stephen Dean or their under tenants and also all the farming stock,
horses cattle and all other things now in his possession as occupier of the
Townhead and Standridge farms, to have and to hold the said two
freehold cottage houses with the appurtenances and premises thereunto
belonging and the said farming stock horses cattle and all other things now
or then in his possession as aforesaid unto my said son Thomas Edmondson
his heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever to and for his and
their own absolute use benefit and disposal. Also I give devise and bequeath
unto my son Joseph Edmondson all that my freehold house and shop with
the appurtenances and premises thereunto belonging situate at Barnoldswick
in the West Riding of the county of York and now occupied by myself.
And also all my stock in trade as grocer, together with all the household
furniture and fixtures there of every description now or then in my
possession to have and to hold the said freehold house and shop with the
the appurtenances and premise thereunto belonging and the said stock in
trade household furniture and fixtures as foresaid unto my said son Joseph
Edmondson his heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever to and for
his and their own absolute use benefit and disposal. And as to all the rest
residue and remainder of my estates and effects whatsoever and
wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever not hereinbefore disposed
of after payment of all my just debts funeral testamentary expenses and the
aforesaid legacies I give and devise and bequeath the same and every part
thereof unto and equally amongst my six daughters, Mary Petty, Betty
Appleby, Ann Whitaker, Sarah Pickles, Alice Peel and Ellen Edmondson their
executors administrators and assigns to and for their own absolute use benefit
and disposal subject nevertheless to the following arrangements that the
following named daughters who have already received the several sums
affixed to their names viz. Mary Petty sixty pounds, Betty Appleby fifty
pounds, Sarah Pickles seven pounds, and Alice Peel twenty pounds, must
have the same several sums to stand as a portion of their respective shares.
And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son Thomas Edmondson
of Barnoldswick in the county of York, farmer and the Rev. Richard Milner of
Barnoldswick in the said county of York, clerk, to be the executors for
carrying this my last will and testament into effect. And hereby revoking and
making void all former or other wills and testaments by me at any time
heretofore made. I do declare this to be my only last will and testament.
In witness whereof I the said Robert Edmondson the testator have to this
my last will and testament set my hand the day and year first above written-
Robert Edmondson-signed by the testator Robert Edmondson in the presence of us all present at the same time who at his request and in his presence have
hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses this 23rd day of April 1853 -

On the 29th day of March 1860 the will of Robert Edmondson late of Barnoldswick in the county of York, grocer deceased was proved by the oath
of Thomas Edmondson the son of the deceased one of the executors named in the said will he having been first sworn duly to administer power being
reserved of making a like grant to the reverend Richard Milner, clerk, the other
executor named in the said will when he shall apply for the same
