HAWORTH INDEX ENTRIES AS OF 24 July 2005

1887
Barrett’s directory notes Robinson Haworth as being a farmer at Dam Head in 1887.

1929
Craven Herald 15/02/1929 reported that Wilfred Watson Haworth was being sued for 10/- per week maintenance by his estranged wife who had two children. Stated to be the pianist at the Majestic Cinema in Barlick and being in receipt of £2-10-0 a week wage. Address given as Gisburn Road Barnoldswick. The court awarded 7/6 a week for each child.

1931
Haworth. James Robert. (AKA The Firewood King). Timber merchant, Lane Bottom (Manchester Road, opposite Letcliffe Country Park entrance) Communist candidate in the 1931 Council Election. In 2002, Shirley Oldfield, (nee Alderson) told me that Jimmy Haworth, the Firewood King, lived at number 1 Lane Bottom Cottages with his wife Edith and he was a communist. Shirley used to live at Upper Hall (Ruined, on side of start of Lister Well Lane). Molly Scaife wrote to me in November 2001 to tell me that Jimmy Haworth had a hut in the field on the side of what is now Manchester Road, it was on the top side of the lane that leads to Lane Bottom Cottages.

1891 Census for Barnoldswick.
Henry Haworth, aged 10, address 20 Wellhouse Street.
