NEWFIELD EDGE INDEX ENTRIES AS OF 05 September 2006

Newfield Edge is difficult.  There are three in Barlick all in roughly the same place.  If you look on the OS map there is Newfield Edge house at the bottom of Folly Lane (SD873462)  Then there is Far Newfield Edge (SD858457) and Finally, Newfield Edge Farm at Middop,  (SD846452). 

ENTRIES IN INDEX.
Newfield Edge House at the bottom of Folly Lane was built in 1770 by the Mitchell Family. It seems that the Rev. William Fawcett of Sutton bought the house from the Mitchells when he came to Barnoldswick as pastor of the Baptist church in 1840. The family lived in the house until 1845 when he left Barlick for another living and the house was rented to William (Billycock) Bracewell. Ada Whitaker Bracewell lived in the house she was born in until she died. She married Joseph Slater and they lived there. In 1914 Joseph Slater bought the house off Cecily Deborah Fawcett. Her only daughter Hilda Mary Slater married William Greenwood of Burly in Wharfedale and Colin and Jean Imrie bought the house off her but not the adjoining farm and land. This part of the property was sold in 1966 by Mrs Greenwood.

I have difficulty sorting out Far Newfield Edge and Newfield Edge Farm at Middop so I give these entries just as I have them.

Richard Hartley, farmer in 1835.
Given as the address of James Shutt in an electoral roll of 1835 for Barnoldswick and same in 1837 and 1841.

1841
Newfield Edge, Middop given as address of James Cook in an electoral roll for Salterforth for 1841.

1851 census.
John Bulcock, 39, farmer of 28 acres.
Henry Roberts, farmer, 40 acres.

1891 census.
Reports Mary Alice Eastwood, 11months, living at ‘Newfield Edge’.
