WRIGHT INDEX ENTRIES AS OF 03 March 2009

At Wetherby the ‘barn of Christopher Edmondson in Barnoldswick’ was registered for worship under the Toleration Act of the same year. One of the signatories was a John Wright. This was the first venue for what became the Baptist Chapel in Wapping. This is unlikely to be the barn in Wapping because that was in the ownership of John Taylor from 1661-1695. [from the History of the Baptist church in Barlick]

Roger Wright, farmer, New House Barnoldswick. In 1890 he is mentioned in CHSC minute books as being paid £2-7-11 for work with horse and cart. 12/03/1890.

In 1898 a ‘Wright’ was mentioned as one of the consortium which formed the Kelbrook Mill Company who bought Sough Bridge Mill.

In October 2005 Billy Parsons told me that Ernie Wright kept the New Inn at Gisburn and he was the father of Percy Graham’s wife (Lived at West Marton)

Evidence of Emma Clark in LTP 78/AK/02 Side one page 3. Says that there used to be a farm where what became Thompson’s garage on the croft now stands. The slope was known as ‘Sagin Hill’ and Jim Wright had the farm. Billy Brooks in LTP 78/AB/05, page 9 says that Jack Wright had a barn up Sagin Hill and his by-name was ‘Jack Shite’.

Calf Hall SC Minute books mention J Wright as having a yard at Wellhouse and needed water laying on. Could have been stables. Entry dated 02/10/1901.

Calf Hall Shed Company minutes. 15/10/02. J Wright and Co. of Cow Pasture unsuccessful applicants for Boocock Brothers space at Wellhouse. In 1905 applied for Bradley Brothers space in Butts, 15/02/1905.

Evidence of Harold Duxbury, LTP 82/HD/03 page 1. Stephen Wright was a blacksmith and had a forge on the land where the Majestic Building is now. (This is ‘Stivy’.
1931
Report in the Craven Herald of 23/01/1931 of the Golden Wedding of Mr and Mrs Frederick Wright of 13 Water Street Earby. They were married in Thornton in Craven church in 1881. Both worked for a time in the mill for Stephen Pickles when he was at Coates. Came to Earby and worked in his father Frederick Wright’s coal business. Opened a greengrocery shop at 13 Water Street and has been there ever since.
1932
Craven Herald of 08/01/1932 reported that Thomas Wright, 55, of Lower West Avenue Barnoldswick, a milk vendor, died suddenly after completing his round.
1955
LTP. 78/AG/12 page 13. Newton Pickles mentions Jack Wright as being pattern maker at Brown and Pickles in 1955 when they made the new shaft for Wellhouse engine.
