Robert Hewetson noted as being a boot and shoemaker in Barlick.
1851 census
William Hewitson, Jepp Hill, 36, power loom weaver. Wife is Jane, 47. Wife's daughter Leah Holt, 14, PLW. Sarah Hewitson, 11, bobbin winder, wool. Mary E. Hewitson, 8. Betty Hewitson, 7. Thomas Hewitson, 3. Robert Holt, wife's son, 26, PLW. William Lowcock, brother in law, 32, hand loom weaver, wool.
1852.
Old Tom Jolly (Hewitson) the blacksmith at Butts Top was said to be a reformed man and an Evangelic connected with the Benevolents. When he gave up his trade he kept a sort of day school in a room under the chapel at Townhead, fees one penny per week. (This chapel still exists as a private house at the junction of Esp Lane and Colne Road.
