The original pic has passed 100 views which is pleasing. Here's the full family (?) group. Probably will be moved again.

Please yourself as Mr Howerd used to say. Oh dear - see below for complications. . . . :laugh5:

AS promised -
Swimmer group.JPG
PS The teflon memory strikes again/Mentioning Frankie Howerd reminded me of a show for the troops he gave in Singapore along with Shirey Abicair - the Australian zither girl. I recall some of her numbers were out of character - and had quite adult lyrics. Amazingly - I find confirmation from google -

In 1965, Abicair's EP, "On the Nursery Beat", was released. It was a number of nursery rhymes put to a Mersey beat. During 1965 she did a tour with British comedian Frankie Howerd to entertain the personnel of HMS Albion and 848 Naval Air Squadron, at Sibu airfield, Malaysia,[18] and other British forces stationed on the Malay Peninsula and in Sarawak, Borneo, during the unrest there.[19] This tour was filmed and later released as a TV special "East of Howerd". During 1966–67 she released a number of more mature songs on record including her version of the Gerry Goffin–Carole King song "So Goes Love'" and Paul Simon's "Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall". She had previously, in the early 1960s, released three albums of folk songs.[20][21]

PPS - and even more amazing it's on Youtube. Indulge me here. Looks like the heat played havoc with his syrup. :laugh5:

Vid was too low quality for me to get anything from it David beyond blurred images and speech.
Really impressed by the swimmers group, you present them well.
I'm up a bit earlier than usual to track the kids as they fly out of Dubai in 10 minutes and their A380 will land in Manchester at about 11AM. Isn't it a miracle that I am able to do this....

Miles Hutchinson at the Pie Shop on Newtown is reporting that work has started converting the old Yorkshire Bank building into an NHS Clinic!

They asked for comments on the proposal and I can't remember any of the multitude of replies being in favour. There is no disabled access, no local parking or convenient drop off point and the building itself is not big enough to swing a cat in. Fractured health provision around town instead of just building a modern all in one place Health Centre on the existing Clinic site. Plenty of room there for a three story building and local parking.

Just think, if the doctors gave up the surgery, (which I think they own as a joint practice). They could keep it, convert the four linked houses into affordable flats, put them up for rent, (very handy just off the town centre) and they would still have a decent revenue from them. They would also have brand new premises built to modern standards and all services under one roof. Or is that too obvious to be doable?

British Gas must be feeling the pinch because at a time when energy needs no selling they are spending money on advertising how caring they are and how they react instantly to complaints. I think you may understand why I snort with derision every time I see it. In my experience they are the absolute pits when it comes to customer service.

While I was on traffic duty the other day at the end of Albert Road I noted a passing car had two small unuion dlags fluttering from the tops of the rear windows. Those are the only two I have seen whereas in previous World Cup years so many cars had them.

Happy Birthday to Nolic if he pops in. :happybd:

We saw the Google street mapping car on our way back from visiting one of Sally's cousins over in Riddlesden. He has recently had surgery. It was like a meet up of the Hutchinson clan, three other cousins were there also. We had a good natter.

On a Google search for Barnoldswick Clinic I came across this:

Barnoldswick Clinic

2-4 Newtown , Barnoldswick, BB18 5UQ
Website address not added

Overview
Services
Facilities
Contact details
Reviews and ratings
Leave review

Overview
Opening times

Monday Unknown
Tuesday Unknown
Wednesday Unknown
Thursday Unknown
Friday Unknown
Saturday Unknown
Sunday Unknown

This is the NHS listing for services which looks like a done deal for the old YB building. Everything is blank because it doesn't exist yet but I think the intention of the move is there. I also found the Lancs Live report from earlier in the year that notes that the building will be more modern but a lot smaller, you can say that again. The report notes:

The old clinic has two main ground-floor wings with a range of rooms including clinical rooms, nurse’s rooms and offices. There are also some car parking spaces and some grass areas.

The report says the advantages of moving to the bank building would be locating health services together, reducing overall costs, ensuring NHS services are kept in Barnoldswick and in a convenient high street location. Disadvantages will be less space in the new building. It also says that after the move the Clinic site will be sold.

I know that Carlson's are interested in the site. Selling off the silver in my view. It's a perfect site for a proper Health Centre

The Clinic previously provided pre and post natal midwifery services, podiatry and mental health services. I remember in the past that the registrar used to visit once a week for the registration of births and deaths.

Just a thought, after listening to the 1pm news on BBC 4. If I couldn't give a **** about Harry and Meghan does that make me racist?? I find it obscene that we are asked to feel sorry for these wealthy and privileged people. Let's hope they grow up and shut up.

I think that's a 'non sequitur' The two are not connected I'd say. I'm doing my best to avoid all contact with the 'story'. It's not easy for a news hound like me.

I'm more concerned about poor Katy Price - it's just one thing after another with her. I don't know how she copes. It was touch and go whether she had to have both feet amputated after her terrible accident, jumpng off that wall in Turkey. The pain seems to be relentless, in fact she had the surgical boots on again only recently. Now the poor girl has had to 'flee the country' to a holiday in Austria. She's close to bankruptcy, and is certainly not being paid a reported $88 million.

Sympathy where sympathy is due. . . . Katy Price

PS OMG it gets worse - What a sacrifice for a millionaire to have to make. She's lost 3 stones you know. (several times) .

GEMMA Collins has revealed she won’t be marrying Rami Hawash next year because of the cost of living crisis.
The millionaire reality star admitted she didn’t think it would feel right spending lots of money on huge nuptials – and hinted she might just elope.

First the important response. Well done Ian for clocking that entry, I agree totally with you especially the bit about selling the family silver. One comment I would make though is that it is possible some creative conveyancing might have to be done. Harold Duxbury once told me that there was no clear title to a lot of land in that triangle.
As for Wendy's annoyance with the continual harping on about Harry and Meghan, I'm with her all the way and have the same opinion about all the 'celebs mentioned in David's post. Spoiled over privileged brats the lot of 'em.
Nobody can doubt my loyalty to the BBC but I am having severe doubts these days about the direction of news gathering, the technical services that support it and fear that impartiality is being eroded. I say the latter after listening to the aggressive interviewing of the leader of the ambulance strike. Nothing about the severe circumstances that have driven the strike but lots about the 'possible deaths the strike could cause'.

According to the dialogue in the meeting they can't refuse it on the grounds that it is not a suitable venue as the application is only for the changing of the the doors and windows! This begs the question, why are they gutting the inside of the building just to change the windows and door? I think the Google search on the NHS facilities available (or not) at the clinic gives the game away.

What attracted my attention is the fact that my computer is playing silly buggers with me. First the keyboard stopped working. Tried another one and same result but after a restart that's back to normal. So now I'm going to go for a total restart....

I won't continue here - not my business, but having looked at the existing place on Park Rd - it does not look suitable for the town. Then again, in such a town it would be hard to find an existing building that was.

I find from facebook dated a few days ago -

There appears to be some confusion over the planned use of the old Yorkshire Bank building.
This is for the treatment room services and not for Barnoldswick Medical Centre.
If anybody has any concerns over the planned use of this building, please contact NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board by calling 01772 214232, or emailing lsc.icb@nhs.net.
As always, we kindly ask if any patients who have any complaints regarding the surgery, to contact us so can discuss this directly with you.
Thank you.

If true - that might explain why they want to alter the building.

I did comment on the subject on Facebook.

Reading the statement, from Barnoldswick Medical Centre, the YB building is for some treatment rooms, not a 'surgery'.
I presume this is to replace the treatment rooms that were temporarily in the Rainhall Centre and, having seen a previous post on here about having to go all the way to Clitheroe to get a dressing changed, would alleviate that issue. It's obvious that Barnoldswick would benefit from a new, purpose built, medical centre and has the ideal location for one on the site at Butts (although I'm sure some would be able to moan about that). Campaigning for a shiny new purpose built health centre could take years before anything was even considered, surely it's got to be a benefit to have something rather than nothing. The inconvenience of access to the YB building (was it an inconvenience when it was a bank?) must surely outweigh travelling to Clitheroe, Burnley, Nelson, Colne, Accrington to have a dressing changed.

Yes, it is and quite true but it doesn't alter the fact that the town is being downgraded in terms of medical facilities. As Ian pointed out, though old and rambling there was a lot of room in the old centre in Butts and plenty of room to build a modern state of the art centre. Saying 'there isn't enough money' is a lie. Projects like that are not funded with money from down the back of the sofa but long term low interest treasury loans. In the interim by all means use redundant bank buildings as stop gaps but treat the town's medical needs seriously.
I still believe that Ian's point about short term profit from selling the site is at the bottom of this.

Just for the record on this, the Town Council or West Craven Area Committee, (not sure who is ultimately responsible for it) offered the NHS land for a new health centre. I believe this was the Rainhall Car Park site, (former railway track bed) between Rainhall Road and Rook street. A very large footprint that is somewhat underused. Recycling was moved to there for the upgrade to the War Memorial, and the car park is never fully utilised.

And what a good solution that would be Ian. But the bottom like is that none of the authorities who control allocation of funds for medical purposes have the slightest interest in upgrading Barlick's facilities. Indeed, adopting the bank building as a solution is a retrograde step in terms of space and facilities.
