Morning

Glad you had a good day yesterday Stanley. I looked up Short Clough Reservoir on Google earth, and I see my friend now lives very close to it at Bonfire Hill. You may have come across Richard Catlow in your History dealings Stanley. He did the same applied Biology degree as me, but became a journalist, local historian and writer as well as an avid Rossendale countryside supporter

Here was a bit dreary, I eventually decided to dry all my washing inside as there was a constant fine drizzle in the air and the occasional shower. It should be dry this morning. The forecast said 26 degrees but our thermometer showed 20. After our shopping expedition Bob fitted the cooker hob and I finished an oil painting I started years ago, but I finished it in acrylic as it dries faster. It is supposed to be a sheep chewing but I think it looks more like a lion🤣🤣.

Today its the market at Malestroit, but we are mainly going for a walk and lunch at the Crèperie which we booked last week. We also want to check that the English second hand bookshop is open during the rest of August so we can take some more books. Its due to be sunny and 29 degrees but at the moment we really do have the August early morning mist which usually lifts by about 10.30. Have a good day all

Morning Sue.... Richard Catlow.... I can't say I instantly recognise the name but it rings a bell.
I hope you have better weather today... Yesterday couldn't be faulted over here and the cool breeze at about 17:00 made it perfect....

I shall be in the shed early doors doing useful things. I might get my pork belly processed and in the slow cooker with oranges and onions before I go in. Depends on how the morning goes.....
Later at 05:00....The pork belly is in the slow cooker with it's accompanying oranges, onion and spices..... A good start!

First job this morning was to find somewhere to store the crankshaft blanks until I need them, they are serious lumps of steel 2.5" X 7". They are out of the way in the bed of the lathe behind the headstock.
Then I measured and marked the top caps of the crankshaft bearings and drilled them 3.7mm which is clearance for the 4BA studs that will hold them down. Then I transferred those locations to the horns on the bed and set the casting up under the pillar drill ready for drilling and tapping. I shall do that tomo0rrow morning. Now I want my breakfast.

Morning

Yesterday was back to the hot and sunny weather . We had our lunch out in the gardens at the creperie, then a pleasant stroll along the canal. When we got back at about 3.00pm I finished making the plum liqueur which I might say was very successful.

Today is a public holiday, full sun and 33 degrees forecast. We are going to the annual car boot sale at one of the villages. Its a huge affair with the whole village being taken over. Usually there are lots of bargains to be had. Over the years we have bought crockery, jigsaws, garden toys, lego bricks , even a full size artists easel. I doubt we will buy much as obviously we are getting rid of things but its always worth a look. We will go early so we can be back home before the heat of the day gets too oppressive. Have a good day all.

I'm back up and getting on with the day. I have just stripped the meat off the ribs in the slow cooker, I can leave it on low now for the rest of the day cooking the meat down and releasing the fat ready for harvesting..... That's what I love about slow cooking, its minimal maintenance, you can forget it! :biggrin2: :good:

PanBiker wrote: 13 Aug 2025, 10:54 Taking it a bit easier than yesterday! We did an extra half hour taster session at the gym yesterday morning at 10.30. I had a light breakfast of a brew and banana which is fine for our normal hour long gym session. This one though was ramped up a bit and was 9 different exercises each of 45 seconds x 2 reps with a 15 second rest in the middle. I was perfectly fine and had done all 17 until the last one when I ran out of steam on the last session of the kettle bell swing. Nearly passed out but was caught by or trainer Katie who is a registered nurse. I had to end my session and have a sit down. She vended me with a loaded chocolate bar and a brew and I revived OK after 5 or 10 minutes. I was fit enough to walk home. I shoved one of my own made energy bars into me before lunch and another half litre of water. I then had to go to the surgery to give another blood sample as the one they took last week was said to be not suitable for testing. What they actually meant is that they failed to get it off to the lab in time!

Moral of the story is to fuel better before gym which I will adhere to before our next session.

No repeat of the above at our gym session this morning, I had a better breakfast a bit earlier than normal before the session today.

Our trainer Katie is off today and for the weekend so we had Stacey for today's session. She stuck to Katie's planned schedule for us so it was two sessions of three different exercises x 3 reps of each block so 18 in total over the hour. Some repeats and some new ones. Booked for Monday and Friday next week and said OK to the Tuesday morning half hour. :training:

It was used as an officer's mess, from 1914, for the adjoining Kinmell barracks. After that it was taken over by a girl's school, Lowther College, It remained a school until 1982 when it closed. Warner Hotels now own most of it.

Today I shall be in the shed doing useful things to my crankshaft bearings.... I don't see any reason why I shouldn't have a walk later, the forecast is quite pleasant. Otherwise, the usual domestic tasks necessary to keep the establishment ticking over.

This morning I drilled and tapped the horns of the bed to accept the 4BA studs that will fasten the top caps down. I fitted the caps and adjusted the clearances between the bearing cheeks until I had a fit for the crankshaft. Next job is to bore the brasses and fit the shaft. That's for another day. My priority now is breakfast.

Morning

It was a hot sticky night and we have awakened to over 20 degrees. 34 to- 35 is forecast. There won’t be much activity round here like there wasn’t yesterday afternoon. We made a few things with apples including another apple cake for tea tonight. Joanne and Paul are coming over so Bob is slow smoking, American style, a piece of pork with a spicy rub on it . I shall also make a plum crumble as an alternative dessert.

Bob picked the rest of the plums later on yesterday and I dug a few potatoes. The latter looks like a miserable crop . I seem to have less than I put in. The onions are much the same, everything suffering from a lack of rain and my present watering is too late. Even tomatoes and courgettes aren’t doing much. I also think the plot needs some organic matter digging in to it, a job for this autumn. Enough of strenuous talk it’s a take it easy day, just a bit of cleaning on my part. Have a good day all.
