1894 is the date, the Mr Stables referred to is my first cousin 5 x removed.

There was a much longer report from the Coroner's inquest where they found that she had died "naturally".

This clipping is quite ordinary, but I do find it enlightening to see what people were doing and what opinions were. Henry Pollard of Barrowford was my Great Grandad on my maternal grandmother's side.

I should say that the article is dated 1948 and that it is about preparing Park Hill, Barrowford. Is that the Heritage Centre? My Great Aunt Madge worked there for a while. I remember my grandma taking us to "Th' Eritage"

Morning Julie.... I can't read your clipping as I ditched Facebook many years ago.
Park Hill became Pendle Heritage Centre when Nelson and Colne College took over responsibility for running it as an extension of the college funding the post of director who was John Miller.

Sorry about the facebook link, it was unintended. For this one, my relative is William Pollard, father of Henry Pollard from the previous link. The demon drink seems to have been an issue for this is Taylor Pollard's son (from previous link) who was accused of having his beer house open after hours and entertaining ladies of the night there.

The year is 1897

Both of the above are the marriages of the daughters of Henry (Harry) Pollard, Margaret (Madge) and Mary. Mary was my maternal grandma and Madge was the previously mentioned Great Aunt. I wonder what made her wedding interesting (as per the title of the piece). They were two interesting and modern girls, being the first ladies in Barrowford to have a permanent wave.

That's a real claim to fame from those days..... I can remember hair salons advertising 'The Eugene Wave. when I was a lad. I passed the shop window every morning as I went to school. I always wondered what it was!

The year is 1962 and I'm guilty of not reading this article thoroughly before. There are people there that I knew but there are family members that I should look for on the genealogy side.

So this is my paternal Grandad, I was lucky and had two wonderful men as grandfathers, but unlucky also as they both died relatively young. Tom Stables' wife made it to 100 and died a year after her youngest son and a year before her eldest.

1926 Richard Slater death 2.jpg
The year is 1926, this is my Great Great Grandad Richard Slater. If ever there was a need to justify health and safety at work, this story should be used. Obviously he was used to what he was doing and no doubt the surrounding noise didn't help.
