It is a warp twisters tool.

Yes Wendy, well remembered. The photo was supposed to have been done by William Bracewell and they were twisters at Butts.

Yes Gloria, well done! It was a lathe still in use at Budenberg's gauge Co at Broadheath when they refurbed the Ellenroad Gauges for free....

Was it used for lapping purposes?

I don't believe it! You're right, it was a lapping compound used for treating hot bronze bearings by pouring in a mixture of Victory compound and thin oil. Newton said it was actually powdered brick. Now set the next one....
