They are a different sender each time but Thunderbird always catches them and puts them in the junk folder.

Further to the phishing scams I have blocked. I have noticed that the senders are almost always what looks like private email addresses supported by Hotmail or Gmail and so I don't see how they can be blocked..... Thunderbird is very good at recognising them and putting them in the junk mail folder.

I couldn't get on the site at 19:30, checked and the CPU was maxed out at 100% on the server. This is now sorted. Looked to be an 'attack' from multiple IP addresses in Singapore

I still can't get into Plesk, Firefox and Chrome reject the site on security grounds.

A bit later, just got in using the link Kev provided the other day.

The storm of data from Singapore should not have happened, I put SG in the Firewall a couple of months ago. I did Indonesia and Sri Lanka in the same block. :dontgetit:

Nope, you share your initials with the the international 2 digit country code for Singapore. It's a lot easier to use wide brush compared to adding individual and ranges of IP's to the firewall.

On a wing and a prayer we must be doing something right. Our server status is rated at 4050 on a scale of 4550.

Looking again, 43.x.x.x is China not Singapore. It was most likely happening as the firewall was disabled, once I re-enabled it it picked up on your original rule :good:

Kev, if you have a bit of time can you try deploying a new version of the Dev Site. There are two spare databases on the IONOS site with different versions of PHP. Feel free to change the password to get access to either. You can display all the config information using "database details". Dev site runs in our original web space on the IONOS side of course.

I may be missing something.

Biggest update ever to Ubuntu.... 315mb and you wouldn't believe how fast it downloaded and installed. Less than 3 minutes. Very impressive....

We've had big Ubuntu updates recently too. Mrs Tiz is on the same v.22.04 as you Stanley and she's had updates of over 300MB, made up mostly of `firmware'. I'm on v.24.01 and a 512MB `firmware' update keeps popping up but when I click on it it downloads very slowly, gets to 511MB then sticks - it will drop by a few MB, then back and forth until it eventually fails and tells me to check my internet connection (which is OK). I'll probably have to ask for help in the Ubuntu forums.

Well that was quick and easy! I went onto the Ubuntu forums and immediately saw that other folk on 24.01 were having the same problem. The forums have lots of users worldwide and so the problem had been noted quickly and a suitable response given. The problem was that a lot of firmware was being updated at once and the system was being overloaded. Alternative sources had been added and I was able to get my 500MB in about 5 minutes! :good:

Having had literally unbelievable problems in my fibre to premises upgrade - I'm begining to think I am being deliberately deceived. Having responded to a very good offer - I am encountering problems in getting them to acknowledge that I qualify.

I'm getting a bit disenchanted by the whole interwebthingy. It should make everyday matters easier - but in fact the opposite is the case.

I'll spare you the details.

Separately - I think the (forced) introduction of AI into existing programs has much to answer for. The financial press is warning that there is an AI bubble which may be about to burst. Remember the dot.com bubble.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your upgrade to fibre David. As you say, increasing efficiency of transmission should lead to simplification but it doesn't. I think a lot of it is down to minor apparatchiks constructing delivery modes that protect and enhance the status of their jobs.
I think your cautionary attitude to the 'AI Bubble' is sensible. Up like a rocket and down like the stick......

Tripps, I'm sorry to hear about your frustrating problems but if its any consolation we're still on copper and lately having very frustrating drop-outs on broadband, on wifi and on bluetooth. It all began, or at least got worse, when the men started digging up the pavements outside and around our house (we live in the middle of three T-junctions leading to three cul de sacs). When it started I went out and told the workmen (all foreign) but they said it was nothing to do with them, they were only laying the plastic pipes in readiness for fibre laying. For about a week we had loud noise and could feel the vibrations in our house. Since then we've had the drop-outs etc. We have our PCs linked to the router by TP-Link Powerline adapters so I'm having to do various tests to track down the problem, such swapping the adapters around and also connecting the PC by direct cable to the router. The latter approach worked OK but I've now gone back to the Powerlines and that seems OK too - so far!

I think it may be resolved now. After providing 'proof of existing contract' three times - they have finally, just now, sent me a confirmatory email which says in simple English that I fulfill the requirements of the offer. That's after two 'final warning' messages by text and email earlier this morning.

Problem is people don't read what you say to them, and some departments don't work weekends - whilst the computer never sleeps, and continues to churn out messages. .

The fibre to the house is laid - and waiting connection. That's what stopped me cancelling - I'd have had to pay £150 for the work already done.
Should be good when fitted- about twelve times faster, and with a booster modem which will ensure connection anywhere in the house, which I don't have now. . All due on 22nd October. Fingers are crossed.
