It can be extended to October 13th 2026, there's an option to get it in the Windows Update app on Windows 10 machines.

A lot of Windows 10 users are unable to get the free Windows 11 upgrade as the Microsoft 'checker' says their machine isn't compatible. Quite a few newer machines don't have the Trusted Platform Module enabled in the BIOS, this is a requirement of Windows 11. It's a straightforward fix unless, like my machine, it only has TPM 1.2 the requirement is TPM 2.0.

I now have 12 months to get a new motherboard and CPU.

A further read of the BBC article and it does actually show
Microsoft is essentially giving personal users two options: Update to Windows 11, or sign up to receive extended security updates for 12 months.
These can be done in the "Privacy and Security" section of your settings.

I'm sure the Daily Mail would be omitting that bit :biggrin2:

Windows settings cant make its mind up about my PC. One the one hand it says it has all the requirements for Windows11 but another section says its not compatible. I have just upgraded to the latest and final Win10 security release.

Sorry to hear about all the problems.... I am not crowing, Linux users could just as easily face similar problems but so far we have been spared.

OGFB database optimisation.

There is the option to run an optimisation on the site database, this will cause an outage of around 20 seconds.

Short notice I know but I will look at running this at 16:10 GMT today as there's only a couple showing as online at the moment.

There was a lot of activity from a Singapore IP address, despite Singapore being denied access. I've added it to the firewall and will keep an eye on things.

The CPU usage was at 100%, blocking the offending IP looks to have sorted it.

Fairly sure I added Singapore with its country code a while back.

Had a look in Plesk and agree the CPU was taking a battering.

Just checked again and was correct, Singapore is banned by country code.

Digging a bit deeper the IP is associated with this company based in mainland China which is also restricted by country code

He went to Wales today and opened a Tram Depot somewhere in the south , north of Cardiff, and got a birthday cake from them. I suppose the Royals do work beyond normal retirement ages, I wonder if the Prince of Wales and his dad flipped a coin to see who would go.

I was thinking about AI, and concluded it would never know anything that it hadnt learnt, should all AI programs go to school and follow the same (entire) curriculum , then be made to sit exams at the end ?
